Aïcha El Beloui
Born in 1984, Aïcha El Beloui is a Casablanca-based illustrator and art director who trained in architecture before devoting herself to illustration and graphic design. Early work on UNESCO heritage-preservation projects shaped a lasting interest in Casablanca’s urban memory.
Through research, interviews, drawing and animation, she gives visual form to unwritten stories about housing, neighbourhoods and their inhabitants, often combining documentary observation with engaged surrealism. Her work addresses social issues in Morocco and Casablanca with a distinctive critical eye. It has gained international visibility through projects including Loading Casa at Dubai Design Week and the Shubbak Festival in London. She also collaborates with residents of working-class neighbourhoods to turn local observations into collective maps and illustrations, notably through the Thames Festival Trust’s Rivers of the World programme.
