Bouchra Ouizguen

Born in Ouarzazate in 1980 and based in Marrakech since 1998, Bouchra Ouizguen is a Moroccan choreographer, dancer and founder of Compagnie O. Her work develops at the meeting point of contemporary dance, oriental dance and long-term collaborations with Moroccan traditional performers, including aïta singers, laâbates and hwariates. Her production Madame Plaza, created in 2009, brought her wide international recognition and received the French Critics’ Syndicate Award for choreographic revelation in 2010. Ouizguen’s practice questions how bodies, voices and inherited performance traditions can create new contemporary forms on stage.
