Chaïbia Talal was a self-taught Moroccan painter associated with naïve art. Born in 1929 in Chtouka, in El Jadida Province, she died in Casablanca in 2004. She began painting in 1963 after an experience she described as a revelation.
Encouraged by critic Pierre Gaudibert, she held her first exhibition in 1966 at the Goethe-Institut in Casablanca and went on to exhibit internationally. Her work entered major collections, including the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne. Today, a boulevard in Casablanca bears her name, reflecting her lasting place in Morocco’s modern art history.
