Hassan Hajjaj

Born in Larache in 1961 and based in London since his teenage years, Hassan Hajjaj is a Moroccan photographer, designer and visual artist often described as a pioneer of Moroccan pop art. In 1984, he founded the clothing label R.A.P. — Real Artistic People. His visual practice combines Arab cultural references, street style, portraiture and contemporary pop culture, often using bold frames built from familiar commercial packaging. His work has been shown and collected by institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum and LACMA. In 2016, King Mohammed VI appointed him an Officer of Morocco’s Order of National Merit.
