Imane Djamil
Born in Casablanca in 1996, Imane Djamil is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice brings together photography, performance, creative writing and poetry. From the age of fifteen, she travelled independently and developed an interest in overlooked places and subjects, including women’s occupation of public space in Morocco.
At eighteen, she became the youngest artist included in Le Maroc Contemporain, the five-month exhibition held at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2014–2015. Her series Printemps Barbare addressed social taboos directly and generated public debate. Her work has since been shown in Morocco and Europe, including at Casa Árabe during PhotoEspaña. She received the New Narratives in Environmental Photography award in 2021 and a Prince Claus Fund Fellows Award in 2022. Djamil is also a co-founder of the KOZ collective and the Cantará cultural-entrepreneurship programme in Tarfaya.
