Kabareh Cheikhats is a Moroccan stage project created in Casablanca around director and actor Ghassan El Hakim and the Jouk Attamtil Al Bidaoui company. Moving between theatre, cabaret, popular song and performance, the collective revisits the repertoire of the cheikhates, the major female voices of aïta and Moroccan musical heritage.
The performers embody these singers not as caricatures but as a tribute to their social, political and artistic power. The project has gained visibility in Morocco and internationally through its connection between popular memory, contemporary performance, gender questions and musical transmission.
