Yto Barrada
Born in 1971, Yto Barrada is a Franco-Moroccan photographer and visual artist based between Tangier and New York. She studied history and political science at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne before training at the International Center of Photography in New York.
Her work examines identity, borders, migration and urban change around the Strait of Gibraltar, often combining photography with film, sculpture, installation and publishing. Barrada co-founded and directed the Cinémathèque de Tanger, an institution that restored the historic Cinema Rif and created an important space for film culture, archives and public programming in northern Morocco.
