Born in Casablanca on 19 April 2001, Zineb Wakrim is a Moroccan film director, screenwriter and visual artist. After earning a secondary-school diploma in applied arts in 2019, she studied directing at the Marrakech School of Visual Arts and graduated in 2023.
Her graduation short Ayyur — “Moon” in Tamazight — portrays two teenagers living with a rare genetic condition that makes them highly sensitive to ultraviolet light. The film uses poems by Forough Farrokhzad translated into Tamazight as a vocal thread. In 2023, Ayyur became the first Moroccan film selected in the official Cinéfondation competition at Cannes and received the third prize. It later earned a youth-jury special mention at Cinemed and a gold medal at the Hurghada Youth Film Festival. Wakrim was included in Forbes Middle East’s 30 Under 30 list in 2023.
