Animateka is Slovenia’s leading festival for auteur animation. It explores short films, new forms of storytelling, handmade and digital techniques, and works that use animation as an artistic and critical language.
A window onto independent animation
The competition highlights productions from Central and Eastern Europe, while international programmes, retrospectives and guest selections introduce a wide range of visual worlds. Students and emerging artists receive particular attention.
Screenings, encounters and learning
Centred on the Slovenian Cinematheque and several Ljubljana venues, Animateka also offers workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions, school activities and professional meetings.
2026 edition
The 23rd edition takes place from 30 November to 6 December 2026, strengthening the festival’s role in the European circulation of independent animation.
