FLAM — Marrakech African Book Festival

A pan-African literary festival in Marrakech bringing writers, thinkers, publishers and readers together around African and diasporic literatures and the book ecosystem.

FLAM — Marrakech African Book Festival

The Marrakech African Book Festival makes literature a space of circulation between the continent, its diasporas and the wider world, bringing authors, publishers, researchers, artists and readers together.

African literatures in the plural

FLAM rejects a single, homogeneous image of Africa. Novels, essays, poetry, narratives and hybrid forms explore the diversity of languages, territories and experiences across the continent and its Caribbean, American, European and Middle Eastern extensions.

Palabres, signings and evening sessions

The programme combines major conversations, round tables, readings, book signings, a festival bookshop and evening events. It gives particular importance to direct exchange and to publishing, translation, circulation and literary archives.

Young readers and wider audiences

The festival develops a youth programme and works across cultural and academic spaces, linking the medina, universities and new readers while keeping much of the programme free.

The 2026 edition

The fourth edition took place from 23 to 25 April 2026 under the theme “Imagining Other Possibilities”.
