Festival Theatre Homs, Syria 17–21 May 2026

Homs Theatre Festival

A revived theatre festival bringing companies from several Syrian governorates to Homs with performances addressing memory, repression, loss and social transformation.

A theatre performance during the 2026 Homs Theatre Festival

The Homs Theatre Festival returned to the stage of the Palace of Culture from 17 to 21 May 2026. Presented as the first edition held after the political transition, it brought together theatre teams from Homs, Hama, Tartous and Idlib.

Writing from memory

The opening monodrama Master of the Stage and the closing production Below Zero framed a programme concerned with exclusion, authoritarian power, imprisonment and forced disappearance. The participating works moved between realism, symbolism and concentrated performance forms.

A network across governorates

Beyond the performances, the festival helped artists and productions circulate between Syrian cities. It offers a useful view of the revival of local theatre policy and the appearance of new companies and voices.

Practical note

The documented edition took place at the Homs Palace of Culture. Future dates and participation procedures should be checked with the Homs Directorate of Culture.
