The Marrakech Short Film Festival defends short film as a space for discovery, experimentation and access to cinema, with particular attention to emerging Moroccan voices.
A festival born during the pandemic
Founded in 2020 amid cinema closures and weakened links between films and audiences, the project chose outdoor screenings and heritage locations to recreate a collective viewing experience.
Short film as a first step
Moroccan and international selections highlight emerging directors alongside more established filmmakers. The concise format encourages discussion after screenings and allows several viewpoints to share the same evening.
Cinema in dialogue with heritage
Palaces, gardens, public spaces and former cinemas become temporary screens. This geography connects contemporary creation to Marrakech’s heritage and reaches audiences beyond conventional cinema circuits.
The 2026 edition
The sixth edition is announced for 25–30 September 2026, with Moroccan, international and documentary competitions and professional encounters.
