Kurdish musicians and performers celebrating Nowruz in Damascus in 2026

The Nowruz Festival held in Damascus on 21 March 2026 brought Kurdish poetry, music, dance and spring traditions into a public cultural setting. The event took place at the Mezzeh Sports Complex with support from the Syrian Ministry of Culture and the Kurdish National Council.

An open cultural celebration

The programme included Kurdish poetry, traditional and popular songs, and performances by children from the Azadi troupe. It presented Nowruz not only as a seasonal celebration but also as a space for recognising the languages, memories and artistic expressions that make up Syria’s cultural diversity.

Living heritage and transmission

The participation of young performers highlighted the intergenerational dimension of the event. In the context of 2026, the festival is also a useful marker for observing how public institutions engage with Kurdish, Syriac, Assyrian, Armenian and Arab cultural expressions.

Future editions

The documented 2026 edition was a one-day event. No later programme has yet been published, so future dates and access conditions should be confirmed with the organisers.
