Oujda’s long-running festival dedicated to Gharnati music, its orchestras, instruments, poetry and intergenerational transmission.

Oujda Gharnati Music Festival — Oujda, Morocco

The Oujda Gharnati Music Festival is one of Morocco’s leading events devoted to the Andalusian musical heritage rooted in the Oriental region and in centuries of Maghrebi cultural circulation.

Artistic identity and public role

Gharnati music brings together melodic modes, rhythmic cycles, poetry and instrumental traditions transmitted by orchestras, associations and conservatories. The festival welcomes recognised masters and younger performers while helping audiences understand noubas, instruments and artistic lineages.

Transmission and current edition

Concerts are joined by exhibitions, workshops and encounters around instrument making, archives and transmission. The 33rd edition, held from 9 to 11 April 2026, confirmed Oujda’s central place in preserving and renewing this repertoire.
