Kursaal during the San Sebastián International Film Festival

San Sebastián International Film Festival — Donostia Zinemaldia — is one of Europe’s major competitive festivals. Founded in 1953, it connects international cinema, Basque creation, industry and exchanges between Europe and Latin America.

A plural selection

The Official Selection is joined by New Directors, Horizontes Latinos, Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, Perlak, Zinemira, Klasikoak, Culinary Zinema and programmes for audiences, schools and emerging talent.

Industry and project development

The festival hosts the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum, WIP Latam, WIP Europa, Ikusmira Berriak, Nest and the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge. This structure makes it both a film showcase and a platform for financing and development.

2026 edition

The 74th edition is scheduled for 18–26 September 2026 in Donostia-San Sebastián. The Kursaal, Tabakalera, Victoria Eugenia Theatre and several cinemas are among the principal venues.

Why it matters
