The Sefrou Cherry Festival is one of Morocco’s oldest heritage celebrations. Born in the early twentieth century, it connects a local agricultural product with popular arts, urban memory, neighbourhood participation and the cultural identity of the city.
Artistic identity and public role
The cherry opens onto a broader story about Sefrou’s gardens, crafts, historic quarters and traditions of hospitality. The symbolic Cherry Queen, processions, concerts, family activities and local products give the festival a distinctive public character.
Transmission and current edition
Inscribed by UNESCO in 2012, the festival is valued as a collective practice sustained by residents, associations and local knowledge. Its 102nd edition, held from 24 to 27 June 2026, combined performances, talks, workshops, a popular-arts village and children’s activities.
