Founded in 1973, Umbria Jazz helped place Perugia and the Umbria region on the international jazz map. It combines major stages, urban concerts, historic artists, new generations and music education.
A festival rooted in place
The project was conceived as a way to connect an international music programme with discovery of the region. Jazz remains central while opening to soul, Brazilian music, rock and pop.
An urban experience
Venues, squares and streets contribute to the festival’s identity. The combination of ticketed concerts, accessible performances and public life helps explain its longevity.
Education and new audiences
The festival also develops Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics, children’s activities and opportunities for emerging musicians.
