About Villa Harris – Musée de Tanger

Things to do in Tangier →
## A house from Tangier's international history Villa Harris was built in the late nineteenth century for Walter Burton Harris, a British journalist and correspondent for The Times. Overlooking the Mediterranean, the residence reflects Tangier's connections with travellers, diplomats and artistic circles. Its conversion into a museum provides a setting for exploring two centuries of art in Morocco while preserving a historic building associated with the city's cosmopolitan past. ## Building and gardens The villa brings together Moroccan architectural references and the domestic design of late-nineteenth-century leisure residences. Its light-coloured façades, arcades and garden setting contribute to the interpretation of the site. Changes in its use over time are part of the wider story of urban and cultural transformations in Tangier. ## Art collections and Mediterranean encounters The museum brings together European artistic representations of Moroccan landscapes and daily life with the emergence and development of Moroccan modern art. Artists named by the museum include Ben Ali R'bati, Jacques Majorelle, Jilali Gharbaoui, Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Hamri and Fatima Hassan. The collection, donated by Moroccan patron El Khalil Belguench, allows visitors to compare artists' perspectives across generations and examine exchanges between Morocco and the Mediterranean world. ## Planning a visit Address: Boulevard Mohammed VI, Tangier.
