Curate a new group exhibition at Kunstraum Memphis
Memphis Calling — What haven’t we thought of yet? is the first international curatorial open call launched by independent art space Kunstraum Memphis in Linz, Austria. The chosen proposal will become a group exhibition between mid-January and late February 2027, presenting several artistic perspectives. No theme or medium is prescribed. Projects can address contemporary art, society, politics, technology, ecology and the way exhibitions bring people together.What the funding actually covers
Memphis makes available a total project budget of up to €7,500, depending on the scale and feasibility of the chosen exhibition. It must cover curatorial remuneration, participating artists’ fees, production, materials, transport, travel and project-specific technical expenses. This is not a personal €7,500 artist prize. The organiser separately offers its exhibition space and existing infrastructure, technical and administrative support, standard printed materials, public relations, opening-event support and documentation. An optional working visit of up to ten days in Linz comes with free accommodation.
Eligibility and artistic approach
Applications are accepted from individual curators, artists working curatorially, cultural producers, pairs or groups based in any country, including Morocco. Proposed exhibitions need to assemble multiple artistic positions rather than primarily presenting the applicant’s personal artwork. Experimental, discursive, performative and participatory formats are welcome. Artists do not need to be fully confirmed at application stage.
Application checklist
Apply online in English or German. Required items include a title and description up to 750 characters, a two-page curatorial concept PDF, a representative JPG/PNG image up to 5 MB, short biography and two-page CV, up to three references with links, and a preliminary itemised budget PDF. Indicate proposed artists where known and whether an optional stay in Linz is sought. Additional portfolio links are optional. Memphis plans to announce the selection by 15 November 2026.
