Who gets to build a sustainable creative life?
Salzburg Global Seminar invites applications for the Cultural Futures Forum: Whose Creative Labor Counts?, a meeting exploring AI, automation, digital platforms, unequal recognition, cultural labour rights, precarity and fair pay. The in-person forum is hosted at Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg, Austria, from 14 to 19 March 2027.Who should apply?
The call welcomes artists, designers, writers, filmmakers, curators, creative business leaders, cultural organisations, policymakers, funders, technologists, academics and civil society professionals. It is international, and applicants based in Morocco are eligible. Selection favours relevant experience, useful insights and the ability to contribute to peer learning and make use of the network after the meeting.
Full and partial scholarships
A limited number of scholarships is available and may support programme fees and travel, or only one of those costs. Priority is given to candidates from the Majority World, including Africa, and groups underrepresented in the cultural field. Funding is not guaranteed for every participant. Without a scholarship, the self-funded participation fee is US$6,000, including the programme, accommodation and meals; travel comes on top. Do not confuse this with a universal fully funded fellowship.
Required availability
Participants should attend online co-creation meetings on 4 and 18 February 2027 and the residential forum on 14–19 March 2027. The programme is collaborative, and participants shape the discussion while building a professional network and producing insights shared beyond the event.
Application process
Submit through the official Salzburg Global Recruitee portal. The form requests a professional profile, information about current work and reflections on the future of cultural labour. It may require a short two-minute video response and offers the opportunity to explain financial support needs. Strong submissions draw on concrete professional examples rather than generic statements.
