Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival turns this historic town in Castilla-La Mancha into a summer capital for classical drama, Spain’s Golden Age and contemporary reinterpretations of canonical texts.
Heritage as a stage
The Corral de Comedias, theatres, palaces, squares and historic buildings host theatre, readings, music, dance, circus, exhibitions and film. The dialogue between built heritage and stage creation is one of the festival’s defining features.
Creation, transmission and new audiences
The official programme is complemented by Almagro Off, Barroco Infantil, residencies, courses, encounters and mediation activities. The festival transmits classical texts while supporting new aesthetics and young companies.
2026 edition
The 49th edition ran from 2 to 26 July 2026 with around fifty productions, including world and Spanish premieres. Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón, Shakespeare and Molière entered into dialogue with contemporary artists and companies.
