The Avignon Festival transforms the historic city into a major international stage each summer. Theatre, dance, performance, music and hybrid forms occupy the Cour d’honneur of the Palais des Papes and many heritage venues.
A laboratory for live arts
Founded in 1947, the festival combines artistic ambition with a public mission. It hosts leading creators, supports emerging generations and connects European, African, Mediterranean and global aesthetics.
A city in conversation
Performances are accompanied by debates, readings, encounters and audience programmes, making Avignon a place where works are both experienced and discussed.
2026 edition
The 80th edition takes place from 4 to 25 July 2026.
