How the tradition unfolds
Boats decorated with branches and loaded with stones are tied into a convoy. Religious representatives and descendants of seafaring families embark while residents greet the procession from the shore. The stones are then cast around the island to reinforce its foundations.
A living maritime tradition
The name comes from the Italian word “fascia”, referring to the bond connecting the boats. The ceremony transmits Perast’s maritime memory, the history of the Bay of Kotor and the relationship between coastal communities, navigation and religious heritage.
