Run by AFCA for Arts and Culture since 2011, Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children creates international artistic experiences in which theatre meets music, dance, circus, storytelling and visual arts.
Creation for young audiences
Hakawy welcomes Egyptian and international companies and presents work made specifically for children. Young audiences are not treated as accompanying visitors; they are the festival’s central public.
Performances and learning
The programme combines performances, visual and sound experiences, workshops and professional exchange about artistic creation and mediation for children.
The 2026 edition
The 15th edition opened in Cairo on 29 January 2026 and continued in Alexandria from 4 to 6 February. Its theme explored rhythm through heartbeat, breathing, movement, play, music, theatre, dance and circus.
