The International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama connects the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes and Menander with contemporary stage languages. Since 1997, companies from Cyprus and abroad have presented the works in their own languages.
Ancient texts in historic theatres
Performances take place at Kourion Ancient Theatre near Limassol, Paphos Ancient Odeon and Makarios III Amphitheatre in Nicosia. The archaeological settings connect heritage, live performance and contemporary interpretation.
2026 edition
The 29th edition runs from 3 July to 8 August 2026. Five productions from Cyprus, Spain, Latvia and Greece address war, violence, collective trauma and the continuing political force of ancient drama.
