Cultural and heritage foundation Nicosia, Cyprus

Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation

A heritage institution founded in 1984, active in collections, museums, research, exhibitions and cultural education.

Historic Faneromeni Square, where the foundation is located

Established in 1984 and housed in the former Bank of Cyprus administrative building in historic Nicosia, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation preserves, studies and shares a significant part of the island’s cultural heritage. Its work brings together collections, museums, exhibitions, publications, research and educational programmes.

Six collections devoted to Cyprus

The foundation cares for coinage, historical maps, rare books and manuscripts, engravings, photographs, watercolours, contemporary Cypriot art and ethnographic objects. Together, these holdings approach the island’s history through archaeology, cartography, popular traditions, visual culture and written sources.

Museums, research and learning

In Nicosia, the foundation hosts the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage and the Museum of the George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides Collection. It is also connected with the Pierides Museum in Larnaca. Its annual programme includes exhibitions, lectures, research projects and educational activities for different audiences.

A living venue in the old city

The Faneromeni courtyard and exhibition spaces also host performances, screenings and public encounters. Visiting arrangements may change according to exhibitions and events, so the official programme should be checked before travelling.
