The Cyprus Medieval Museum occupies Lemesos Castle near the old harbour. Since 1987, it has displayed part of the medieval collection of the Cyprus Museum and offers an overview of the island’s political, social, economic and artistic development from the third to the eighteenth century.
A monument with many lives
The present castle largely dates from the Ottoman period, although excavations revealed earlier phases, including an Early Christian basilica and a Byzantine monument. The site experienced destruction, rebuilding and changing functions before serving as a prison until the mid-twentieth century.
Medieval life in Cyprus
The collections include ceramics, funerary sculpture, coins, weapons, liturgical objects and decorative arts. They reveal changes in daily life, religious practice, exchange and political authority through the Byzantine, Lusignan, Venetian and Ottoman periods.
Plan your visit
The museum is located beside Lemesos Old Port. Published opening hours are 9:00–17:00 Monday to Friday and 10:00–17:00 at weekends. The individual ticket is listed at €4.50. The historic building is not accessible to wheelchair users.
