Founded in 1945, the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina collects, preserves, researches and presents the country’s historical heritage. Its approach has broadened from a Second World War focus to a more open social history.
Telling ordinary experiences
Objects, photographs, posters, testimony and archives approach major events through lived experience. The Besieged Sarajevo exhibition documents daily life, survival strategies and cultural creation during the war.
A museum open to society
Participatory projects, debates, residencies and artistic collaborations have renewed the museum’s contemporary role. Its modernist building and garden also serve as meeting spaces.
