The War Childhood Museum is an independent institution that grew from a participatory project documenting memories of people who grew up during war. Its permanent Sarajevo exhibition opened in January 2017.
Objects accompanied by stories
Toys, clothes, letters, photographs and everyday objects gain meaning through their owners’ testimony. The exhibition gives space to complex individual experiences rather than an abstract narrative.
An international platform
The Bosnian collection now sits alongside testimony from other conflicts. Research, documentation, travelling exhibitions and education programmes extend the museum’s work.
