The Museums and Galleries of Podgorica form the capital’s principal municipal network for history and art. Founded in 1950, the institution preserves archaeological, urban, social and artistic evidence connected with Podgorica and its wider territory.
Collections and programme
Holdings include archaeological material, historical documents, dress and material culture, modern artworks and collections connected with Montenegrin artists. The network presents permanent and temporary exhibitions, education programmes and collaborations with institutions in Montenegro and the region.
Cultural role
The institution connects the ancient history of Doclea with transformations of the contemporary city. It also gives visibility to artists associated with Podgorica and supports public research into urban memory and local heritage.
