Teatru Manoel — Malta’s National Theatre

Malta’s national theatre and one of Europe’s oldest working theatres, located in the historic centre of Valletta.

Baroque interior of Teatru Manoel in Valletta

Teatru Manoel is Malta’s national theatre and one of Europe’s oldest theatres still in operation. Its 547-seat Baroque auditorium hosts opera, theatre, music, dance and independent productions in the centre of Valletta.

A living historic theatre

The building is not presented only as a monument. It produces and receives a regular season, collaborates with Maltese and international artists and includes a smaller studio for contemporary and experimental work.

Music and festivals

Teatru Manoel is a central venue of the Valletta Baroque Festival. Its acoustics, wooden boxes and historic decoration create a distinctive environment for chamber music and opera.

Visits and access

Theatre visits may be available outside performance times. Confirm opening hours, accessible areas and photography conditions through the official website.
