About this event
The 23rd Morocco Storytelling International Festival brings storytellers, artists, researchers and oral-tradition enthusiasts from Morocco and several other countries to Rabat from July 13 to 20, 2026. Under the theme “If the Homeland Were Told to Me: Aïcha Kandicha Speaks,” this edition connects Moroccan popular imagination with stories from across the world while marking thirty years of work devoted to safeguarding and transmitting the art of storytelling.
Talks, workshops, performances and evening storytelling sessions unfold across several emblematic venues in the capital. The festival presents oral narrative as a living art able to transmit experience, connect generations and create bridges between cultures. Aïcha Kandicha is approached not as a frozen legend, but as a layered voice shaped by history, fear, resistance and collective memory. Led by the International Academy for Intangible Cultural Heritage, Morocco Storytelling has been included since 2023 in ICESCO’s register of best safeguarding practices.
