Filmmaking and local history meet in Oued Zem
The eighth Cinema and History Meetings take place in Oued Zem from 18 to 20 November 2026, organised by the Biladi Development Association. The theme, “Cinema and Tribe: Documenting Local Memory”, explores how film preserves stories, histories, landscapes and the collective experiences of local communities.
A tribute to Bouchâib El Massoudi
Moroccan filmmaker Bouchâib El Massoudi will be honoured for his contribution to documentary storytelling and social memory. The announced programme includes a screening of his film Amghar, followed by an audience discussion, as well as a masterclass giving participants an opportunity to engage with the director’s career and methods. A precise screening time has not yet been released.
Short films, discussions and training
The event plans a short-film competition, workshops for students, book signings and a symposium on “Cinema, Tribe and Local Memory”. Held around Morocco’s Independence Day, the meetings connect contemporary filmmaking with the transmission of social and historical knowledge.
