Al Malaki Cultural Complex – Salé

## Venue and history The **Al Malaki Cultural Complex** occupies the former **Cinéma Al Malaki** near **Marché Central square in Salé's old medina**. The municipality acquired, renovated and equipped the historic cinema for renewed public cultural use. The transformed venue was inaugurated on **23 September 2014** during the **International Women's Film Festival of Salé**. Its story illustrates the adaptive reuse of a cinema as a multidisciplinary cultural venue. ## Facilities and cultural purpose Accounts of the 2014 refurbishment describe an auditorium of **approximately 500 seats**, an equipped stage, backstage areas, air conditioning and visitor facilities. The opening included film screenings and tributes to artists associated with Salé. These figures describe the **2014 configuration**, not a recent technical inspection; seating and stage specifications should be reconfirmed by any future organiser. ## Events, programming and current status The venue remains part of the city's festival circuit. On **29 July 2026**, the **Chabka Festival** programmed a **Gnawa music evening** at Al Malaki, recorded in Culturama's events archive. Comedy performances were also advertised at the former cinema in earlier years, including **“Bombacomique – L'confinement” in June 2022**. Visitors should check individual notices for entrance, admission and accessibility because **standard public opening hours have not been verified**. The cover is **a festival poster**, not a building photograph. ## Practical visitor information - **Location :** Ancien cinéma Al Malaki, place du Marché Central, médina de Salé, Maroc - **Phone :** not verified - **Before attending :** Opening times, fees and booking vary by event; confirm with the organiser before travelling.
