Confucius Institute at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University – Tangier

## Background and university partnership The **Confucius Institute at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tangier** is the **third Confucius Institute established in Morocco**, inaugurated on **22 September 2016**. It was created through cooperation between **Abdelmalek Essaâdi University** and **Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University** in China. Its institutional address is **Avenue Cheikh El Makkoudi in the Charf district**, near the **King Fahd School of Translation**. The centre combines Mandarin education with cultural activities for learners, students and local audiences. ## Language education and cultural activities The institute offers courses **from beginner to advanced levels** and preparation for **HSK / HSKK Chinese proficiency examinations**. Its cultural programme includes **calligraphy, traditional paper-cutting, Chinese song, cooking, martial arts, lectures and Chinese Bridge competitions**. Its stated mission also covers teacher education and exchange between Chinese and Moroccan universities. Not every activity happens at the Tangier campus: outreach has included school events in **Larache**, meaning attendees should rely on the location stated for each session. ## Verified events and programmes In **2026**, the centre held a **Year of the Horse Chinese New Year gala on 15 February** featuring cultural performances and music. On **16 April**, it worked with the **China Cultural Center in Rabat** and Al Amana school on **“Lanting – Cultural Encounter”**, featuring **calligraphy, tea culture, traditional games and an exhibition about Confucius**, subsequently reported on 21 April. Official contact details appear on the institute's website. **Administrative opening hours and the current course fee schedule have not been independently verified**, so learners should confirm places, registration and attendance terms before travelling. ## Practical visiting information - **Address :** Avenue Cheikh El Makkoudi, quartier Charf, près de l’École supérieure Roi Fahd de traduction, 90000 Tanger, Maroc - **Phone :** +212 680 92 66 - **Email :** icuae2016@163.com - **Official information :** [https://confucius.ma/](https://confucius.ma/) ## Related cultural institutions [Centre culturel de Chine à Rabat](/institutions/centre-culturel-de-chine-rabat) · [Institut français de Tanger](/institutions/ifm-tanger) · [Institut Confucius – Université Hassan II](/institutions/institut-confucius-hassan-ii-casablanca) ## Sources and image credits [confucius.ma](https://confucius.ma/contact) · [confucius.ma](https://confucius.ma/about) · [confucius.ma](https://confucius.ma/activities) · [ci.cn](https://ci.cn/en/site/2321003000/) · [www.glunis.com](https://www.glunis.com/MA/Tangier/1755659424652934/Institut-Confucius-Tanger) · [www.cccrabat.ma](https://www.cccrabat.ma/expositions-spectacles/) *Portail mondial des Instituts Confucius (ci.cn) — photographie de l’entrée de l’Institut Confucius de Tanger, avec signalétique chinoise.
