A training and creation centre in Fez Jdid

The Kan Ya Makan Rhada Centre is an AMESIP project based at the Moulay Ali Cherif School in Fez Jdid. It works mainly with young people and uses artistic practice as a route into qualification, expression and social inclusion. Its name shifts the familiar “once upon a time” towards “tomorrow”, reflecting a pedagogy focused on building professional futures.

The centre combines social support, technical training and creative production. This matters because the programme is not limited to occasional workshops: participants develop skills, working habits and practical experience of collective projects.

Performance, image and technical skills

Documented activities include circus, dance, theatre, scenography, photography, video, web skills, languages and technical professions in live performance. Young participants can understand a production from artistic preparation through stage management, image-making and communication.

The centre also hosts residencies and encounters with artists. Public presentations, performances and partnerships allow trainees to test their learning with audiences and professionals. Cooperation with the French Institute, heritage associations and international programmes expands these opportunities.

Culture as a route into inclusion

AMESIP treats art as a lever for personal and professional development. Stage discipline, collective work, public speaking and technical competence are used to rebuild confidence and widen routes into employment.

Kan Ya Makan works alongside the Shems’y School of Arts and Crafts, another AMESIP initiative. The centre covers a broad range of practices and technical roles, while the school develops specialist training in areas including scenography and costume.
