MAC.A – House of Contemporary Art, Asilah-Briech

## An Atlantic-facing home for contemporary art The **MAC.A House of Contemporary Art** is an arts centre and residency space in **Aqouass Briech, near Asilah**, on Morocco's Atlantic coast. Founded in **2012** through the initiative of artist **Ahlam Lemseffer**, the venue is **not inside Asilah's old medina**: visitors should plan to travel to Briech. Its coastal setting supports creative production away from the historic town centre. ## Exhibitions, workshops and artist residencies MAC.A provides exhibition rooms, studios, talks and residencies for Moroccan and international artists. Activities embrace **painting, sculpture, printmaking** and wider interdisciplinary exchange. Alongside the display of finished works, the centre supports artistic research, mentoring, youth workshops and meetings between artists and audiences. ## The 2026 International Contemporary Art Symposium The centre hosted the **15th symposium** in **2026**, including a partnership with **Wallonia-Brussels**. A residency held **17–23 May** brought together artists from Morocco and French-speaking Belgium. The **23 May** opening combined exhibitions with talks, an artist-monograph presentation and poetry readings. Works from this collaboration remained on display until **22 September 2026**, now an archived programme. ## Visiting MAC.A - **Location:** Briech Beach, Aqouass Briech, Tangier–Asilah road, near Asilah. - **Contact number in the Ministry of Culture gallery catalogue:** +212 539 41 87 34. - **Email:** fondationmaca@gmail.com. - **Official information:** [MAC.A Foundation](https://maca-foundation.com/). - **Before travelling:** confirm access days, exact route, fees and whether advance arrangements are needed. ## Related cultural discoveries Read Culturama's [2026 Contemporary Art Symposium exhibition archive](/en/events/asilah-contemporary-art-symposium-exhibition-2026-bf343720-5762-4780-b9a7-301f405e1396).
