## From Kasbah prison to contemporary art museum The **Kasbah Museum – Contemporary Art Space** occupies the former prison of Tangier’s Kasbah, built within the historic Dar El Makhzen complex. After centuries of use as a prison, the building was rehabilitated as a cultural venue. Historic vaults and masonry now frame contemporary artworks, creating a particularly strong dialogue between architecture and exhibition design. ## A living exhibition space The National Foundation of Museums describes the venue as a space for **temporary exhibitions, encounters and cultural exchange**, with strong links to artistic production in northern Morocco. It also holds a collection of Moroccan and international art, giving the institution both a collecting and programming role. ## Mohamed Lekleti in 2026 From **19 June to 30 November 2026**, the museum presents **Ne tenir qu’à un fil**, a solo exhibition by Mohamed Lekleti organised within the Mediterranean Season 2026 with the Institut français and Frac Occitanie Montpellier.
