Riad Sultan Theatre Tangier

## A theatre inside Tangier’s Kasbah Riad Sultan Theatre opened in November 2021 in a restored historic building in Tangier’s Kasbah, close to the Mechouar and Bab Al Bahr. The building previously served as a stable associated with the historic Dar El Makhzen complex. The restored cultural site covers more than 450 square metres, and its name recalls the nearby Andalusian garden known as Riad Sultan. ## Small-scale performance and participation The venue was established as a neighbourhood theatre bringing staged work into the historic medina. Activities go beyond conventional drama to include cinema, contemporary dance, music, poetry, public discussions, workshops and education in performance arts. Its adaptive reuse illustrates how a historic structure can accommodate artistic production and cultural learning. ## October 2026 programme The programme published for October 2026 includes film screenings, live theatre, concerts and meetings. Recorded events include Jerusalem by Ismaël Saidi on 14 October, a tribute event devoted to Mustapha Bennis on 16 October and a Georges Courpet Quartet concert on 22 October. Workshops and other activities address different age groups. ## Access and nearby museums Address: Mechouar alley near Bab Al Bahr in the Kasbah of Tangier.
