International creative residencies at A4 in Chengdu
A4 Residency Art Center, linked to the A4 Art Museum, welcomes international artists, curators, designers and interdisciplinary creators, including those based in Morocco, to develop research and creation in Chengdu’s Luxelakes neighbourhood. Residencies last at least eight weeks and encourage participation in local cultural, commercial and community networks. The 2028 sessions run in April–June and July–October.Crucial deadline clarification
The organiser's official website distinguishes the sessions: 2027 recruitment closed on 30 June 2026, while 31 December 2026 is the deadline for 2028 recruitment. The opportunity should therefore be published as A4 Residency 2028, not mislabelled as a still-open 2027 programme.Funded fellowship versus self-funded option
The fully supported international fellowship supplies a private studio and living accommodation, return economy flight or second-class train funding up to a set limit, and RMB 10,000 per project/team for production and materials. The RMB grant does not cover routine living expenses. A separate self-funded “Light Version” provides studio, housing, institution access and promotional support, but the participant pays their own travel and production costs. Applicants must explicitly choose which programme suits their budget.
Who can take part and what is required?
Eligible fields include visual and performing arts, film, sound, music, architecture, fashion and interaction design, curatorial practice and cross-disciplinary cultural enterprise. Residents are expected to organise one or two public activities, engage with the local community, share research and document results. Selection focuses on innovation, feasible delivery, collaboration and local social/cultural impact.
How to apply
According to the official page, applicants must provide documentation in both English and Chinese: personal photograph, CV, portfolio and detailed project proposal, using the linked A4 application form. For the funded fellowship, email a4residency@a4am.cn with subject “A4 International Residency Application – [Your Name] – 2028 Spring/2028 Autumn”. The self-funded Light Version uses qiaojiayi@a4residency.com.cn instead. International applicants should confirm Chinese translation requirements and practical visa arrangements with the organisers.
