Tide: images in motion at a public-space festival
The Getxophoto International Image Festival, organised by Begihandi Kultur Elkartea in the Spanish Basque Country, opens its 2027 'Tide' international call. The 21st festival will be held in Getxo from 27 May to 20 June 2027. 'Tide' examines images as moving, circulating and changing phenomena: photographs resurfacing from archives, gaining new meanings and helping communities imagine or organise collective action. Outdoor visual installations are central to Getxophoto's identity.
Worldwide eligibility
Photographers, visual artists and collectives at any career stage, from any country including Morocco, may submit work. Eligible forms extend beyond still photography to video, visual performance, digital art, installations, image-based archives and participatory work. The jury considers artistic quality, the clarity and development of the proposal, suitability to the festival setting, relevance to Tide and gender/inclusion considerations.Awards for three winning projects
The organisers select three winners whose projects will be produced and presented as exhibitions or installations during the festival. Each winning project receives €500 in artist fees including taxes, travel assistance up to €150 for international artists, and two nights' accommodation during the opening week, plus promotional visibility. The festival pays exhibition production costs, controlling the production plan with its curator. International airfare is not guaranteed in full, as the support is capped at €150, and extra nights or subsistence may be the artist's responsibility.
Application fee, language and copyright
Entry costs €22 per submitted project. Apply through Picter in English or Spanish, submitting a clear proposal and illustrative visual materials. Applicants retain copyright to their work and warrant they own necessary permissions for all visible individuals and any third-party material. Selected work may be reproduced for non-commercial publicity with appropriate credit. Read the terms before making payment, since the charge is per project.Deadline
