The city as a shared and contested habitat
Austrian arts association Lendhauer — Contemporary Art and Culture in Public Space is seeking projects for Klagenfurt’s Lendhafen under the theme “Urban Ecologies: Coexistence and Control.” Selected proposals will be developed for summer 2027, from June through September. Artists are invited to explore relationships among human and non-human life, contested urban belonging, management, exclusion, urban materials and ecological interdependence.
International applicants and artistic formats
The call is open to artists, designers, architects, performers, researchers, interdisciplinary practitioners and collectives from Austria and abroad, including Morocco. Installations, interventions, performances, participatory practices, discursive events and experimental process-based work may all be considered. Each proposal should make the urban site an active part of the artwork, rather than treating it simply as a stage.
Financial support and important limits
Selected projects are expected to receive artist fees and production budgets, but there is no fixed amount guaranteed in advance. Figures will be determined in light of confirmed funding and negotiations with the selected artists. Applicants should include a realistic estimate for materials, technical work and other project expenses, and confirm with the organiser whether travel from Morocco can be included.
What the jury considers
Selection evaluates artistic quality, relevance to the theme of coexistence and control, a specific relationship to the Lendhafen’s spatial and cultural context, project feasibility and contribution to public encounters. Investigative methods, environmental care and public accessibility can be integral parts of the artwork.

- Artistic proposal, maximum three A4 pages, describing the concept, format, placement, possible materials and ecological aspects, production period and forms of audience involvement.
- A preliminary itemised production budget.
- A short biography and CV of the artist or team.
- A portfolio of previous work, maximum ten pages.
