LocationKortrijk, Belgique — NEXT Festival
Eligibility / regionArtistes du monde arabe (Maroc éligible)
Mophradat, BUDA and NEXT Festival offer one contemporary performing artist from the Arab world, including Morocco, three weeks in Belgium to premiere a new work in autumn 2027. Travel, visas, per diem, production contribution and presentation fee within a €10,000 overall support package. Deadline 4 January 2027.

Complete an original work and premiere it at NEXT Festival

Mophradat, Kunstencentrum BUDA and NEXT Festival offer Art Time Residencies: Performance 2027 for one artist or artistic team from the Arab world, including Morocco. The selected resident will spend three weeks in Kortrijk, Belgium, during October/November 2027 using BUDA's facilities to complete an original contemporary performance and premiere it at the international NEXT Festival. Up to three collaborators can join the lead artist, meaning a maximum team of four people.

What the €10,000 total includes

The package amounts to €10,000 overall, not an unrestricted €10,000 cash grant paid to the lead artist. It combines international travel, visa costs, residency per diems, a contribution to production costs and a performance presentation fee for the NEXT premiere. BUDA provides rehearsal, technical and artistic guidance, support, feedback and professional connections. The partners assist selected artists in the visa process and include contingency compensation if a visa refusal prevents the residency.

Eligibility and artistic requirements

Applicants must be artists from or in the Arab world, or identify with the Arab world as home. They need a record of creating and publicly presenting previous work, and must currently be developing a new, original project using contemporary or experimental performance formats. Classical theatre, community theatre, classical Western dance such as ballet and concert proposals are not eligible. By September 2027, the work must be in the final stage of development, backed by confirmed co-producers or a credible financing plan. The residency finances only part of the full production.

Preparing the one-session application

Complete the application through Mophradat's official online form, which cannot be saved or revisited. Prepare your practice statement, proposed work's concept, intended performance format, names and roles of collaborators, progress to date, development plan through September 2027, technical needs and any existing co-producers. Attach PDF CVs and the requested portfolio with embedded video links in the platform's accepted format: external storage links alone are not accepted as a substitute for uploaded documents. Mophradat stresses the importance of personal responses rather than AI-generated application language.

Selection calendar

Deadline: 4 January 2027; consult the application site for the precise closing hour. Shortlisted applicants may be interviewed in February 2027, and all applicants should hear by 1 March 2027. A short residency report is required after the project is presented.
