International recognition and four days at Sony Pictures Studios
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2027, run by Creo Arts Group in partnership with Sony, are open free of charge to filmmakers worldwide, including directors from Morocco. Creators of 34 shortlisted films are invited to an industry programme in Los Angeles, 7–10 June 2027, with workshops, masterclasses and networking at Sony Pictures Studios, followed by the awards ceremony.
Six competition categories
Fiction and Non-Fiction accept completed shorts of 5–20 minutes. Animation requires 2–20 minutes and at least 75% animated footage. Immersive accepts 5–20-minute 3D, 180° or 360° video, excluding unrelated augmented or mixed-reality techniques. Student requires 5–20 minutes and applicants studying a recognised higher-education film programme or graduating in the same year. Future Format accepts 2–5 minutes of vertical 9:16 filmmaking. Each different film may enter only one category. Works must have been released or completed between 1 January 2025 and 15 December 2026, and must be finished, not works in progress.Prizes and funded attendance
Shortlisted creators receive flights and accommodation for the Los Angeles programme, professional training and industry access. Winners in Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation and Immersive receive USD 5,000 cash; the Future Format winner receives USD 2,500 alongside imaging equipment. A separate Sustainability Prize awards USD 5,000. Equipment and Meta devices are awarded under specific category rules. Not every finalist receives a cash prize. Visa eligibility and travel procedures still require the entrant's attention.
Technical submission instructions
Submit through the official form with an online screening URL hosted on a platform such as YouTube or Vimeo that stays active through July 2027, and an accompanying JPEG image between 1 and 5 MB. Files or download links instead of online screenings are disallowed for ordinary categories; Immersive also requires a direct downloadable video link. Films with significant non-English dialogue need burnt-in English subtitles, so Arabic, Amazigh and French-language films should be prepared accordingly. Applicants must hold the rights to the film and disclose any AI-assisted elements. A 1080p ProRes HQ MOV, minimum 24 fps, may be required later.
