From 6 to 15 February 2026, Kotor celebrated its winter carnival through parades, balls, workshops and popular rituals in the old town and surrounding bay communities.
The 2026 edition
The opening at Arms Square brought together the Fešta majorettes, Kotor City Band and the raising of the carnival flag. The programme continued with children’s costume balls, a grand masquerade, mask-making workshops, the Prčanj Carnival anniversary, the traditional gnocchi night and school activities.
Why this carnival matters
The event continues a carnival culture developed across several centuries. It combines local satire, street music, costume creativity and community participation before closing with a final parade, the trial and symbolic burning of the carnival figure.
