D-CAF, the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival, is an international multidisciplinary festival based in central Cairo. It connects contemporary creation, urban architecture and new audiences through performances, concerts, installations, workshops and encounters.
Downtown as a stage
The programme unfolds across theatres, art spaces, historic buildings, rooftops, passages and unconventional venues. This geography is central to the festival’s identity: works are not simply presented in Cairo, but engage critically and imaginatively with the city and its spaces.
A cross-disciplinary programme
D-CAF covers performing arts, music, dance, visual arts, new media and special events. It welcomes Egyptian, Arab and international artists while developing workshops, professional exchange and cultural-access initiatives.
Editorial status
The latest fully documented edition took place in October 2025. A future edition should only be listed with dates once the official calendar is published. The permanent profile remains useful for following the project, its partner venues and its open calls.
Why it matters
- A contemporary reading of Downtown Cairo’s urban heritage.
- Strong attention to hybrid forms and new media.
- An international network of co-production and artistic circulation.
