Luxor African Film Festival — LAFF — is devoted to cinema from the African continent and its diasporas. Its location in Luxor reflects a clear ambition: to circulate African films in Egypt and build a major cultural event beyond Cairo and Alexandria.
African cinema in focus
The festival presents feature and short fiction, documentaries and animation. Its competitions include work by African directors and diaspora filmmakers, alongside public screenings, tributes and debate.
Training and cooperation
LAFF develops workshops, publications, professional encounters and support activities. It is a project of the Independent Shabab Foundation for Support and Development and works with a range of Egyptian cultural and public institutions.
2026 edition
The official poster for the 15th edition gives the dates 30 March–5 April 2026. The homepage also displayed a calendar shifted by one day; Culturama uses the poster and official call dates while retaining both sources for transparency.
Why it matters
- A major platform for the diversity of African cinemas.
- Cultural decentralisation rooted in Luxor.
- A dialogue between cinema, African identity and heritage.
- Natural connections with Aswan and El Gouna festivals.
