The Cyprus Museum in Nicosia is the island’s principal archaeological museum. Its fourteen galleries trace the material history of Cyprus from the earliest prehistoric communities to the Roman period through discoveries from major archaeological sites across the country.
A chronological and thematic route
The collections cover the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Cypriot kingdoms, Hellenistic period and Roman rule. Pottery, sculpture, jewellery, inscriptions, funerary objects and figurines illuminate daily life, religious practice, exchange and political authority in antiquity.
Major archaeological groups
Highlights include finds from the royal tombs of Salamis, sculptures from the city’s Roman gymnasium and a major collection of terracotta figurines. A separate gallery is devoted to temporary exhibitions and recent research.
An upgraded display in 2026
The permanent exhibition was enhanced in February 2026 with important finds from recent archaeological research and antiquities repatriated to Cyprus. Texts, lighting and display cases were also improved to make the museum route clearer and more engaging.
Plan your visit
The museum is located at 1 Mouseiou Street in Nicosia. It opens Tuesday to Friday, 8:00–18:00, Saturday 9:00–17:00 and Sunday 10:00–13:00. On the first Wednesday of each month it remains open until 20:00. Admission is free and accessibility facilities are available.
