Founded in 1939, the Greek National Opera is the country’s leading lyric institution. Since 2017 it has been based at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Kallithea.
Opera, ballet and musical creation
The season combines major repertoire, Greek operetta, ballet, concerts, contemporary commissions and productions for children and families.
Two stages and a national role
The Stavros Niarchos Hall hosts large productions, while the Alternative Stage focuses on contemporary and experimental formats. Broadcasts, tours and education programmes extend its reach beyond Athens.
