The Ciné Junior programme at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech presents Azur and Asmar, Michel Ocelot’s 2006 animated film. Raised like brothers by the same nurse, Azur and Asmar are separated as children before meeting again as adults, both drawn into a quest for the Djinn Fairy. Their journey moves through palaces, deserts, gardens and visual traditions inspired by the Mediterranean.
Beneath the structure of a fairy tale, the film explores brotherhood, prejudice, multilingualism and the possibility of building an equal relationship across different cultural worlds. Ocelot’s visual language combines geometric patterns, saturated colour, architecture and decorative arts, giving the film a richness that speaks to adults as well as younger viewers.
The screening takes place on Wednesday 22 July 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Pierre Bergé Auditorium. It will be shown in the Arabic-language version and runs for approximately 99 minutes. Admission is free and no booking is required, subject to available seating. The event is part of the museum’s summer Ciné Junior season.
